What is hosting?
Web site hosting is renting out space on another computer over the internet and can used for storing web sites on.
What is web space and traffic allowance?
Web space is the online storage space that you are allowed to use when you sign up for hosting. Traffic allowance, sometimes called usage allowance, is, as the name suggests, the quantity of traffic that your site is allowed to get, usually over a monthly period.
How much web space and traffic allowance will I need?
This depends on the purpose of your site and how much it will likely be visited. 300MB of web space is adequate for a personal or blogging site but small companies may need more than this. The traffic allowance varies to how much traffic the site will receive. Small sites may only need 1500MB of traffic allowance but larger, more popular sites will need a larger allowance.
What is a domain name and how can I get one?
Domain names are the web address of a site. For example, www.yourdomain.com. We currently do not offer domain registration so you will need to buy a domain from a domain registrar such as Simply.com or Enom
What is Fantastico?
Fantastico is a piece of software which allows you, the customer, to install other software onto your web space. For example, Fantastico allows the automated installation of the famous blogging platform, Wordpress, so that all you have to do is fill in a few details and the software will be installed instantly.There is no downloading or uploading needed at all! It can be accessed via cPanel.
What are subdomains, parked domains and addon domains?
Subdomains direct visitors to specific parts of the site using addresses such as http://billing.yourdomain.com and http://support.yourdomain.com. This can be very beneficial if you have a number of departments on your web site
Addon domains are addditional domains hosted on the same account. For example, if you decided to create another site, you might not have to purchase another hosting account, but instead simply add it on to your existing account for no extra charge. Our different hosting packages allow different quantities of addon domains
Parked domains redirect to your main site. For example, it allows you to redirect a domain like http://www.your-other-domain.com to http://www.yourdomain.com. Please note that you will have to purchase all of the domains you want to use, as none of the hosting packages include domains in the prices and we do not currently offer domain registration.
What is FTP and how do I use it?
FTP standing for File Transfer Protocol is the easiest way to transfer files between computers or servers. Using FTP, you can simply drag-and-drop files from your computer to your web space. To use this technology, you will need to either download an FTP client such as the popular free SmartFTP program or you could use an online FTP client such as Net2FTP. The customer control panel, cPanel, also provides an File Manager facility.
Do you put advertising on my page and do I need to include a link to this site?
Absolutely not. Our customers sites are completely professional and a link back to this site is not necessary. We do not put any advertising on web sites, although you may put your own adverts and pay-per-click advertising on your site if you so wish. A well known program for generating money from displaying adverts on a site is Google Adsense.
Other hosts offer unlimited features such as unlimited bandwidth with their packages - why don't you?
Many hosts do offer unlimited bandwidth/traffic or unlimited storage with their packages, but thinking rationally about this leads to the conclusion that nothing is unlimited. No-one has a computer which has unlimited hard drive space or unlimited processing power, so hosts that offer unlimited features are misleading their customers. Furthermore, the vast majority of users do not need such large quantities of resources that these hosts offer, so they are overselling. Whym Web Hosting is proud to be different to other hosts in this respect as we do not oversell and instead give our customers what we know they'll need.

What payment methods and currencies do you accept?
All of your payments to use are done using Paypal. However, you do not need to have a Paypal account - you can use a variety of credit cards alternatively when paying. If you do have a Paypal account, you can also set up a monthly recurring subscription to save time.
Using Paypal means that we can accept an array of currencies including GBP Sterling, US Dollar and Euros. We primarily trade in GBP Sterling however.
